In September, the SIMBA partnership gathered in Antwerp for our final in-person meeting, a moment to put the finishing touches on the SIMBA project and celebrate the strong collaboration that has defined these past years.
On the agenda
- Sharing pilot study results
We discussed the outcomes of the pilot study on the psychometric qualities of the SimOT Compass, an evaluation instrument developed by SIMBA to evaluate student competencies through simulation-based learning (SBL). We look forward to sharing the results soon.
- Presenting the revised SimOT Compass
Following the pilot study, the SimOT Compass was refined to ensure it meets the highest standards for educators and students.
- Finalizing teacher manuals
To support educators in using our materials, we developed two comprehensive manuals:
- One for creating and implementing scenarios using the scenario template
- One for applying the SimOT Compass effectively

During the meeting, we reviewed final feedback from colleagues and fine-tuned these guides to maximize their usefulness.
- Shaping the SIMBA web platform and Learning Hub
A key focus was the design of our web platform (https://simba.turkuamk.fi/), a central hub where all developed materials will be shared in open access. This platform will also serve as a gateway to the SimOT Community, a space for occupational therapy educators (and students) passionate about simulation-based learning.
The Learning Hub will guide educators step by step in developing and implementing SBL in their curricula. Beyond the project’s conclusion, we aim to keep building this community and strengthen simulation-based education in occupational therapy via LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/groups/15471012/
A partnership built on collaboration
Throughout the project, we forged a strong and inspiring partnership. Collaboration, sharing expertise, and co-creating new knowledge around simulation-based learning have been at the heart of SIMBA.

We are proud of the expertise we’ve built together, and continue to build, and we’re excited to share these resources with occupational therapy educators worldwide.
Although it wasn’t quite time to pop the champagne, the meeting was a clear reminder of the incredible work accomplished and the meaningful results achieved.
Looking ahead
We hope our materials will be warmly welcomed and will support educators in implementing this valuable educational approach. We’re eager to continue collaborating and expanding this work.
Don’t hesitate to reach out, and we hope to see you soon in our SimOT Community!
